A MoU has been signed between the Women and Child and Development Ministry and the Uttar Pradesh government for managing a shelter home for widows built by the former at Sunrakh Bangar in Vrindavan.
The shelter home for widows has a capacity of 1,000 inmates.
The memorandum of understanding shall be in force for a period of two years which may be renewed for a further period on the satisfactory running of the home, a release by the WCD ministry said.
The shelter home shall be run either by the state government or any of its institution, any civil society or by any reputed non-government organization. The decision in this regard will be taken by the state government, it stated.
According to the MoU, the state government shall be responsible for activities including setting up the mechanism for identifying beneficiaries, providing residential care to the widows, deploying staff according to norms.
It further states that senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government will visit and check the security staff periodically and monitor their performance. It also includes provisions for facilitating Aadhaar cards for all inmates and medical and geriatric care for them.
